One of the biggest mistakes DIYers make is slapping ply lining directly onto the bare metal of their van. A metal van acts like a tin can—it echoes loudly while driving and transfers heat and cold instantly. Insulating your van before lining it is an absolute must. Here is a quick step-by-step guide.
Step 1: Sound Deadening Start by applying sound deadening mats to the large, flat metal panels of the van's walls, roof, and floor. You don't need to cover 100% of the van; covering about 50% of the flat panels will stop the metal from vibrating and significantly reduce road noise.
Step 2: The Main Insulation Layer

Closed-Cell Foam (CCF): Excellent for sticking directly to the van walls. It doesn't absorb moisture. We use and recommend Dodo V3

Mineral Wool / Fleece: Great for stuffing into the hollow ribs and cavities of the van. (Avoid fiberglass, as it can hold moisture and cause rust). We recommend and use EcoWave manufactured in Ireland.
Step 4: Ready for Ply Lining With your van quiet and insulated, it’s finally time to install the ply lining.
Step 5: The Finishing Touch! To finish apply 4 way stretch lining carpet over the plywood.
